Keeping your stick like new

The two wear parts are the tassels and the grip coating. Both are replaceable, so a worn stick is not rubbish — it is a five-minute repair.

• Tassels: replace them once they fray. Fresh tassels bring the balance back.
• Grip: wipe with a damp cloth. Do not leave it in direct sun for months; silicone does not like UV.
• Storage: in a shoulder bag or flat. Leaning against a radiator will bend it.
